If you want to automatically track and measure conversions through Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for appointment bookings and deposits made through your Kitomba Online Booking site, there are a few steps you’ll need to take, which we cover in this article.
Here you’ll find out how to measure and set up appointment booking and deposits on your Kitomba Booking page in line with Google’s new GA4 analytics guidelines, which are often referred to as Goal Events and Conversions in Google Analytics.
This is important because Google will stop collecting and feeding data to Google Analytics 3 properties on 1 July 2023. You may have received reminder emails from Google warning you about the cutoff date and urging you to create a new property in GA4.
Here’s what you’ll need to do to get ready for this change. You can do this yourself, or your marketing agency or consultant can do this for you.
What is Google Tag Manager and how do I set it up?
Google Tag Manager is a free tool from Google that allows you to quickly and easily add and update website tags from a single interface. Tags are pieces of code used to track and measure activity on a website, such as page views, user clicks, and other events, like bookings.
With Google Tag Manager, you can add and update tags without having to edit your website code. You can read more about Google Tag Manager at this link from google.
You must have Google Tag Manager installed before you can set up Event / Conversion goals, such as the number of bookings completed on your Kitomba Online Booking page.
If you are still unsure about how to set up Google Tag Manager you can follow this guide.
Setting up a conversion goal for measuring Appointment Bookings completed on your Kitomba Online Booking page
To set up a conversion goal for measuring the number of appointment bookings completed on your Kitomba Online Booking page, take the following steps:
1. Log in to your Google Analytics 4 property and click on the little cog icon at the left-hand bottom corner of the GA panel, then select the Events option.
2. Select the Create event button.
3. You will need to enter a Custom event name. In this instance, we enter (Action_branch makes it easier to report on) Appointment_booked_complete_Wellington in the Custom event name section, but you can choose to name it whatever you want. Make sure you don’t use any special characters or spaces. Use underscore if it’s more than one word.
4. Now, let’s fill in the Matching Conditions fields under Custom Event Name.
- Firstly, we need to grab the URL for the Value section. Go to your Kitomba Booking page and copy the part of the URL after apps.kitomba.com For our demo account, it looks like this:/bookings/pranil.bhikha
- Now add page_path in the parameter field.
- Choose starts with (ignore case) in the operator field.
- Paste the booking page URL in the value field and add #confirm at the end. For us it looks like this: /bookings/pranil.bhika#confirm
- Click on the Save button.
5. Tagging Events as conversions.
- Once you have setup the events, go into Admin and click on Conversions.
- Click on on the New conversion event button.
- You’ll have this Create conversion event screen slide into view, Either paste or enter the exact name used for the booking event created, in this case we enter Appointment_booked_complete_Wellington.
- Click on the Save button.
Important: All changes may take up to 48 hours to show up in Google Analytics 4. Once you’ve followed these steps, wait a day or two and check that it’s working as it should.
